WHO PAYS HOSPICE
Hospice care is completely covered by Medicare, with no co-pays or out-of-pocket costs for those enrolled in the program. Veterans can also access hospice benefits through the Veterans Administration at no expense. Additionally, many private insurance plans include hospice care coverage.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT
When you begin hospice care, a professional will provide detailed information to help you make informed choices. Your personal physician can remain involved in your care, or you can opt to have the Hospice Medical Director oversee it.
Your hospice nurse will collaborate closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan. During this time, you and your family have the opportunity to make key decisions about your care. Services are delivered in the comfort of your home, and the hospice team maintains ongoing communication to ensure support is available 24/7.
HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR HOSPICE
Hospice services are available to individuals diagnosed with a life-limiting illness and a life expectancy of six months or less, based on the usual progression of the condition. To be eligible, the patient or their representative must elect hospice care, and a physician must confirm the patient’s medical qualifications. Typically, the patient’s primary doctor, in partnership with the hospice medical director, makes this determination.
